If you're unhappy with your stock desser but still learning, I would try out some free VSTs and see if you prefer any of them.Get your vocals to sit in the mix with the most sophisticated set of tools designed for vocal production. A friend who mixes live performances and podcasts to deadlines swears by his Izotope bundle because of Rx and the various semi-automated tools in the package. I really like Fabfilter for a surgical task like de-essing, and use Soundtoys and Softube to warm things up, because I make synthy electronica at my own pace. Soundtoys, Softube, and Universal Audio are examples of companies that take an analog emulation approach, which can give a warmer and more old school sound. These plugins are very much at the clean and surgical end of the spectrum, as are most DAW built in plugins, Fabfilter and others. It is mostly a matter of whose workflow and UX you prefer.

There are plenty of alternatives at similar prices to Izotope's full versions that are just as good. Izotope make good plugins without a doubt - Rx in particular is an industry leader. Really you're paying for a somewhat useful demo with 'essentials'. Really it's a marketing hook, the idea being you buy elements, it does a few useful things, you get a discount on upgrades so it feels like you're saving money etc. This is a really common 'sale' - you can get it somewhere most of the time. Too easy to spend money on things that end up collecting dust. #1 piece of advice to beginners is learn your DAW tools well, and consider purchasing 3rd party stuff when you really understand why you want it and which one you want. I'm taking from "I'm pretty ignorant" that you're fairly new to mixing? I'd love to get some opinions on any of these, thanks! And hopefully you'll be helping others decide if it is/isn't a good deal for them. I was watching a MusicTechHelpGuy video (God bless him!), and he was saying he didn't like Logic's de-esser and instead recommended Waves or iZotope de-essers, so when I was checking out the prices on those I came upon the sale and the price seemed low enough to go ahead and risk it. It includes: Ozone Elements (mastering tools), RX Elements (an audio repair tool), Neutron Elements (mixing plug-ins with track assistant and EQ learn), and Nectar Elements (vocal compression, De-essing, pitch correction, etc) Neutron Elements definitely seems intriguing to me. Basic Nectar Elements is regularly $129 though, so for me this was a no-brainer and was definitely worth the risk even if I don't really know what the other plug-ins do - I've never messed with mastering my projects. I bought it primarily because I wanted to try Nectar Elements for vocals, although Nectar 3 is $249 and clearly contains much more.
It seems to be the bare-bones versions of some of their more popular products with less functionality than what comes with the high-priced versions. A) I wanted to let people know about this because it seems like a good deal (although maybe it isn't - I'm pretty ignorant) and B) I wanted to ask if anyone uses any of these plug-ins and finds them particularly useful.
